How to Wear Pressed Powder
A versatile beauty essential found in every woman’s makeup bag, face powder provides a natural, oil-free look while covering blemishes and evening out your skin tone. Powder foundation, made mostly of talcum powder, provides breathable and lightweight coverage and absorbs oil to create a smooth look. Pressed powder has a matte finish to control shine and is easy to apply with a brush or a sponge to achieve any desired look or level of coverage. Less messy and easier to use than loose powder, powdered foundation has a lasting coverage perfect for all-day wear.
While powder is great for covering up uneven skin tones, it is not ideal for disguising lines and wrinkles, as the powder can settle into even the finest creases. Because powder can make skin appear dry, women with dry skin should use it sparingly and consider other types of foundation as alternatives. If you have combination skin, apply more powder in oily areas of your face and less in drier areas, for an even look.
Powdered foundation can be applied with a sponge, a large puff, or a full, round brush. To apply powder, sweep the brush over your skin using downward strokes to minimize the appearance of peach fuzz. Avoid a caked-on, mask-like look by not applying too much powder.
Powder comes in a wide range of shades to match every skin tone and type. Be sure to choose a shade of foundation that matches your skin tone exactly. Because it isn’t saturated with pigment, translucent powder is best for minimal coverage and suits most skin tones. Your skin tone can vary by season, so in the summer, you may want to use a different shade of powder to match your tanner skin. Do not try to make your skin look more tanned by using a darker shade of foundation; instead, add color with bronzer or blush.
